The Image Guidance Surgery Specialist reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organizations Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards. This position provides engineering and clinical support to NMH customers to optimize the utilization of biomedical equipment and the application of technology. This position is responsible for assisting the surgical team with preoperative imaging preparation, appropriate instrumentation, maintaining sterile work environment, anticipating surgeon intraoperative needs with planning surgical orientation and equipment staging. Description Provides biomedical equipment management support for assigned customers. Interprets and evaluates compliance with appropriate codes and standards for biomedical equipment. Provides training to nurses, physicians, technicians and other Biomedical Engineeringpersonnel in understanding the theory and safe operation of biomedical equipment to ensure the quality of patient care. Consults with NMH physicians and staff on clinical issues such as clinical/technical trials in evaluating new technology. Maintains current knowledge of perioperative surgical technology, policies and procedures Prepares and provides appropriate instrumentation, preoperative imaging, and relevant supplies during surgery. Maintains sterile field for surgical procedures. Anticipates needs of the surgeon intra-operatively, appropriately plans and prepares OR equipment Consults with the surgical team to ensure correct equipment is available and in working order, such as lasers, microscopes and navigation equipment. Provides expert level point of contact for Navigation/Integration equipment, microscopes, endoscopes, video integration technology and other highly specialized surgery equipment. Maintenance and care of surgical instruments includingspecialty specific positioners. Assist with trouble shooting equipment issues. Advanced knowledge on various techniques to register patient anatomy including identification of fiducials, anatomical landmarks, surface and intra-operative registration. Collects instruments/equipment and delivers to Sterile Processing Proactively communicates with health care team, Biomedical Department, Information Technology and vendors. Other duties as assigned. Required: BS in Biomedical Engineering or equivalent experience. 2-5 years relevant experience in a hospital, or similar experience in the industry working as a vendor of identified devices. Strong communication skills, both oral and written. Ability to work in a fast paced and stressful environment within a team. Eagerness to learn and expand responsibilities with interest in Neurosurgery, Spine, ENT, Vascular, Trauma. Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS). Ability to provide in-services and continuing education to surgical staff and surgeons. Preferred: BS in Biomedical Engineering plus 2-5 years relevant experience in a hospital. Experience with image guided technology for Neuro, Spine and Ear, Nose and Throat specialties. Knowledge of surgical robotics procedures. Knowledge of video integration technology. Knowledge of surgical/clinical techniques. Ability to problem solve to make recommendations to process the patient plan of care. Experience with Stereotactic Frame, 3 Dimensional Video Computerization/Navigation, Computer systems.
