Your Role:

As a ASC Furnace Technician you will perform duties in connection with controlling, adjusting, batch handling and mixing equipment and automatic furnace control equipment. In this role, you will maintain glass levels and temperature and record a log of the furnace operation.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Monitors automatic charging and boosting of furnaces with batches to supply raw material to furnace for melting.

  • Controls chargers that automatically charge furnace with raw batch.

  • Maintains glass levels and temperatures in all furnaces. Operate or adjust temperature control settings to maintain proper temperature.

  • Inspects and cleans chargers and checking amount of mixed batch in furnace day bins.

  • Checks level visually, as well as checks operation of automatic level gauge.

  • Reverses fires and air valves whenever automatic system malfunctions or is inoperative.

  • Checks furnaces to determine faulty operation conditions such as hot spots, dirty burners, clogged checkers, and furnace leaks.

  • Takes measures to temporarily correct these conditions; notifies supervision of conditions.

  • Makes changes to correct any defective conditions found and, when necessary, notifies supervision of conditions.

  • Keeps log of Batch and Furnace operation, noting required statistics in log book or log sheets.

  • Takes boosting reading every 2 hours, temperature readings, MSC readings to make sure of accuracy.

  • Sets-up required specifications in the MCS computer.

  • Cleans up bin sensors for accurate readings.

  • Removes, replaces, and seals burners to insure combustion efficiency.

  • Responds to automatic alarms and identifies malfunction, then either corrects operation or notifies maintenance or

  • supervision so proper corrective action can be taken.

  • Check the ASC cooling system.

  • Checks batch mixer seals and bucket elevator bearings.

  • Checks temperatures on furnaces using optimeter

  • Makes minor adjustments and repairs as required, such as unplugging cullet gates, pipes, cullet diverter, sand bin,

  • transfer boxes that may require riding man-lift or elevator.

  • Dumps batches from the monorail system buckets to bins.

  • Assists other department employees as time permits; attends emergency situations such as emergency glass leaks and power failure.

  • As required, operates mixing system on manual basis; weighs colorizer and decolorizers, using small hand scales; checks and adjusts frit feed and stirrer in colorant forehearth.

  • Notify the supervisor and make batch adjustment as necessary.

  • Checks brick wall refractory using optical gun.

  • Performs good housekeeping functions in furnace area.

Position Requirements:

About You:

  • 1-2 years in a field or production environment in a technical capacity required

  • 1-3 years working in field or production environment preferred

  • 1-2 years in a supervisory role preferred

  • Experience trouble shooting electro-mechanical systems and process control

  • Knowledge of PLC, Motion Control, Process Control, Robotics

  • Ability to suggest modifications to obtain improved results

  • Able to work with a wide variety of technical personnel and projects
