About the Role
The Mainframe Technician performs monitoring and support for information technology systems and services related to security, network, applications, and infrastructure operations required to meet the requirements of customers. They also take full responsibility for monitoring and coordinating support activities related to systems and service performance and their contribution to the business.
Installs, configures, and troubleshoots mainframe systems.
Performs remote monitoring and analysis of systems-related events and operations.
Analyzes and ensures that events, incidents, and requests are handled according to agreed procedures and service levels, including supporting documentation.
Provides technical documentation to insure efficient planning and execution.
Interacts with the internal team, external customers, other service functions, and providers to troubleshoot, communicate status, and resolve issues.
Maintains the highest levels of Mainframe availability, scalability, performance, and data protection.
Plans and implements platform maintenance.
Gathers and prepares service and systems related data and information required for operational effectiveness and improvements.
Other duties as assigned.
3 years of experience supporting IT systems, including broad knowledge of security, network, applications, and infrastructure technologies.
Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology or related field preferred.
Experience with a variety of programming languages, including JCL, TMS, COBOL, Easytrieve Plus, DB2, IMS DB, or VTAM.
Experience displaying strong communication skills; ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technically proficient IT professionals as well as end-users in an understandable and comprehensive manner.
Experience working with hardware and software vendors to diagnose and correct problems.
Experience providing end-to-end ownership for problems, issues, or escalations.
Working experience with Mainframe OS installation, maintenance, and support.
