Red Hat Systems Administrator
The System Administrator is responsible for installing, configuring, and maintaining operating system workstations and servers, in support of business processing requirements. The principle server operating system will be Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and client system will be Microsoft Windows 10.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Provide Tier II troubleshooting support for incidents within one (1) business day after receipt of request during normal business hours
Respond to hardware or software problems within 15 minutes of initial report during on-site hours and on an on-call basis after duty hours with a two (2) hour response time to begin work
Document troubleshooting and resolutions in an automated tool
Monitor, maintain, and optimize operating systems, applications, and vendor specific software supporting the servers and peripheral equipment
Perform software installations and upgrades to operating systems and layered software packages
Schedule installations and upgrades and maintain them in accordance with established IT policies and procedures
Ensure workstation/server data integrity by evaluating, implementing, and managing appropriate software and hardware solutions
Ensure data/media recoverability by implementing a schedule of system backups and database archive operations
Support media management through internal methods and procedures or through offsite storage and retrieval services
Configure and maintain print devices to include establishing print queues on USTRANSCOM’s print servers and maintaining detailed documentation pertaining to the configuration and location of each device
Develop and promote standard operating procedure
Conduct routine hardware and software audits of workstations and servers to ensure compliance with established standards, policies, and configuration guidelines
Develop and maintain a comprehensive operating system hardware and software configuration database/library of all supporting documentation
The selected candidate must have the following:
Extensive (minimum 3 years) system administration experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), CentOS or other Linux operating system servers
Demonstrated experience supporting Microsoft Windows 10, Microsoft Windows Server (2008 RE, 2012 RE and 2016), SCCM, McAfee Data at Rest, RSA and VMWare.
Demonstrated experience operating and maintaining both physical and virtual servers
The ability to support 24 hour Weekend/Holiday On-Call Operations and respond onsite within two (2) hours of notification
The ability to support roughly 3 contingency/emergency/exercise periods per year
Current Red Hat Certified System Administration certification is highly desired.
Experience supporting Solaris Operating System, PowerShell, Remedy and Tanium desired.
Bachelors degree and 3-5 years of experience, or any equivalent combination of education, experience, training, and certifications. An IAT Level II certification is required. The minimum of an interim Secret level DoD Security Clearance is required.
Requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk (90%). Requires sitting at a computer terminal for long periods of time (90%). There is a possibility that due to parking availability and location of work area walking moderate to long distances can sometimes be required.
Inside office/cubicle environment. Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers and all levels of management (100%).
Equipment and Machines
Requires ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, copier, and other general office equipment (100%). Ability to conduct evaluation of third and fourth generation or current state of the art computer hardware and software and its ability to support specific requirements, interfacing with other equipment and systems.
Attendance is critical. Work hours are normally 8 hours per day and 5 days per week, Monday through Friday. Being prompt is important to provide continuous and on-going service to customers. Attendance is important to maintain continuity of service. Work outside of normal duty hours may be required with as little as one hour advance notice. Overtime is infrequent, but important when required (1%).
Other Essential Functions
Must be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Must be able to interface with individuals at all levels of the organization. Must be able to obtain unescorted access to work areas. Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others. An IAT Level III certification is desired. The minimum of an interim Secret level DoD Security Clearance is required.
