UnitedHealth Group Lead Software Engineer - Schaumburg, IL or Telecommute in Schaumburg, Illinois

Come and join our teams in building our Clinical Products and other applications supporting Optum. In the role of Lead Software Engineer you will work independently and in a team as needed, in developing new features to build new products and enhance our applications as needed. Our platforms consume and generate a great volume of data. This role will cover all primary development activity across all technology functions that ensure we deliver code with high quality for our applications, products and services and to understand customer needs and to develop product roadmaps. This includes but is not limited to analysis, design, coding, engineering, testing, debugging, standards, methods, tools analysis, documentation, research and development, maintenance, new development, operations and delivery. With every role in the company, each position has a requirement for building quality into every output. This also includes evaluating new tools, new techniques, strategies; Automation of common tasks; build of common utilities to drive organizational efficiency with a passion around technology and solutions and influence of thought and leadership on future capabilities and opportunities to apply technology in new and innovative ways.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Adopt Enterprise Architecture guidelines to store and manage Big Data

  • Develop data pipelines using Apache Spark/Databricks

  • Present solutions to teams and stakeholders and document design decisions

  • Utilize Enterprise Technology assets, when applicable

  • Work with Product owner to develop stories and user flows

  • Set up CI/CD Pipelines and maintain

  • Work is self-directed and not prescribed

  • Work with less structured, more complex issues

  • Serve as a resource to others

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Sciences or related field

  • 6+ years of experience in software development

  • 6+ years in Data Engineering. Must have worked on building green field applications

  • 2+ years of experience leading small/medium teams

  • Experience in building Real-time/Batch Ingestion and data processing pipelines built using Apache Spark/Databricks

  • Skilled in coding in Python or Java

  • Able to contribute towards test automation and DevOps pipelines

  • Must have experience with OpenShift/Kubernetes

  • Must have experience with SQL and Azure

  • Strong interpersonal skills, coupled with equally strong Team Building and Communication

  • Sense of urgency in daily work ethic

  • Strong leadership, organizational and time management skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree
