Representing GGB US IT, the Reports and Desktop Automation Developer is part of a divisional IT team which develops enterprise caliber software applications on the Microsoft platform. The team is led by managers with software development backgrounds and strives to use modern practices and technologies to develop software the right way. There is a dynamic team environment that encourages collaboration among developers to make the whole team better.
This position, reporting to the GGB-US Director, IT Project Services, will be responsible for developing and maintaining Microsoft Access applications, low code applications built with tools such as OutSystems, and other desktop automation solutions such as Microsoft Office templates and macros.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Interacts with key business individuals to understand business issues and goals
Collects, documents, and confirms business requirements for programs and reports
Analyzes business processes to identify opportunities for improved desktop automation
Produces logical and physical database designs for programs and reports
Reviews designs for programs and reports with business users and obtains approvals
Designs, codes, tests, debugs, and maintains programs and reports
Ensures acceptable performance of programs and queries
Produces support and end user documentation for programs developed
Performs access review tasks to ensure user and admin access to applications, databases and servers is appropriate
Conducts disaster recovery testing for applications supported
Required:
Bachelor’s Degree
3 or more years of experience in the following:
relational databases
programming on the Microsoft Access platform
programming for the insurance brokerage industry
serving as an IT liaison to business users for application requirements
Excellent verbal and written communication skills – must be comfortable speaking and writing to business and technical audiences
Intermediate level experience with MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio)
Must be comfortable using audio and web conferencing tools (i.e. WebEx)
Competent to work on most phases of applications systems analysis and programming activities, but requires instruction and guidance in other phases.
Desired:
Hands-on experience with the following technologies
SQL Server
SQL Server Reporting Services
Microsoft Access
Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) and Microsoft macro development
OutSystems or other low code solutions
Experience with logical and physical database design as well as database query performance tuning including index analysis
Experience with Workfront, TFS, SharePoint, .NET, Active Directory, Quest Identity Manager, BMC Remedy, Umbraco, Visual Studio
