This position is located at the Rock Island Arsenal Auto Skills Center. It is a Regular Part-Time position with guaranteed hours of 20 per work week and eligible for the NAF benefits package.

Responsibilities
  • Troubleshoots and diagnoses malfunctions/failures and performs required adjustments/repairs using a variety of test equipment, such as, timing light, oscilloscopes, emission analyzers, charging system meters, combustion analyzer, and diagnostic unit.
  • Installs, replaces or repairs items involving moderate complexity within the following systems: ignitions, charging, exhaust, brakes, air conditioning, front suspension, emission control, fuel, starting, and drive train assembly, etc.
  • May assist in performing major repairs to engines, transmissions, differentials, and suspensions.

  • Completed and signed DA Form 3433 is required prior to entrance on duty
  • Must be able to lift items weighing up to 70 lbs. The work conditions may be dusty, noisy with exposure to cuts, burns and bruises.
  • Physical examination is required.
  • Must be willing and able to obtain an Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certification within the first year of employment.
Qualifications

Knowledge of the operation and installation of all components, assemblies, and systems of vehicles (such as engines, transmissions, front and rear-end assemblies, power steering and braking mechanisms, electrical and hydraulic systems) sufficient to isolate malfunctions to the defective component(s) and to effect those repairs that can be performed without complete tear down and rebuild of the component. Ability to remove and reinstall major and minor components and to perform required alignment and adjustment. Skill in the use of a variety of test equipment such as compression gauges, thickness, multimeter, and pressure gauges and skill in the use of such tools. Must understand technical manuals and be able to reference parts and materials.
