CHS has an exciting opportunity in our Global Grain and Processing group. We are looking for a Lab Project Lead Technician to initiate and develop projects based on current and future lab equipment, chemical and enzyme products, as well as current and future processes. You must be process driven and detail oriented, with excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

You will:

  • Assist Quality Assurance Lead in carrying out the plant quality control program for all feed stocks, intermediates, and finished products.

  • Maintain and calibrate all laboratory equipment.

  • Operate gas chromatograph and liquid chromatograph.

  • Augment Operations staff in performing standard and extraordinary analytical testing in order to troubleshoot plant operations and/or facilitate process improvements.

  • Support laboratory housekeeping program.

  • Actively participate in safety, health, and environmental programs.

  • Perform other duties as needed or assigned.

  • Approach every task with safety as the first work consideration. Adhere to all safety policies and procedures. Identify and mitigate hazards before starting work tasks. Maintain situational awareness to identify and mitigate potential hazards while performing work tasks.

Basic Qualifications: (required)

  • Associate’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, or related technical field required

  • 1 plus years of work experience with fermentation and/or distillation processes in industry or academia

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Must be able to properly utilize personal protective equipment in order to safely handle laboratory and process chemicals and antibiotics

  • Must be able to climb ladders and stairs

  • Proficient with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Access

Preferred Qualifications: (desired)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, or related technical field

  • Formal education in fermentation and distillation processes in a dry-mill ethanol refinery

  • 2-5 years of work experience with fermentation and/or distillation processes in industry or academia

  • Experience in a dry-mill ethanol refinery laboratory or equivalent laboratory experience

  • Knowledge of basic principles in usage, maintenance, and user-level programming of new computerized laboratory equipment

  • Strong background in experimental procedure and data analysis
