Title

Position Overview


Reporting to the Head of Games, the Merchandise Planner provides structure, analytics and performance monitoring related to the financial and rental performance goals of the Video Games department. The Merchandise Planner will actively support and contribute to the purchasing decisions of video game titles and partner closely with the Head of Games to develop and manage purchasing strategies that drive rental performance, optimize inventory investment, and generate profit.

Key Responsibilities

  • Item Planning

  • Conduct in-depth analysis of video game titles to support buying team in purchasing decisions, forecasting, and performance-tracking.

  • Manage open-to-buy process by coordinating monthly reviews of purchase forecasts with Video Games, finance & accounting, and other cross functional teams.

  • Analyze historical data and current trends to forecast title performance and develop strategies to maximize opportunities and minimize risks (inventory levels, product mix).

  • communicate all plans to department leadership and collaborate with team to ensure plans can be supported.

  • Regular presentations to multiple cross-functional team members on purchasing recommendations and title performance.

  • Support Head of Games during negotiations with publishers by providing data analysis to influence pricing and optimal buying quantities.

  • Financial Planning

  • Utilize planning tools and advanced analytical skills to accurately forecast both period and year sales, margin, inventory and turn. Ensure plans support strategic and financial objectives of the department.

  • Create department, class and portfolio level financial plans by analyzing historical, seasonal and current trends.

  • Identify the impact future promotional and ad plans to margin, and work with department leadership to minimize risk and meet targeted goals.

  • Introduce opportunities to increase sales, margin and turn to meet or exceed budget.

  • Reporting

  • Maintain, update, and distribute a suite of standardized reporting on a daily/weekly/monthly basis.

  • Create new reporting as necessary.

  • Ad hoc analysis as necessary.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or related field required.

  • 5+ years in a business analytics role, preferably merchandise planning.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills with a focus on driving results.

  • Solid grasp of inventory planning concepts

  • Strong project management skills with ability to prioritize workload to meet deadlines.

  • Ability to work independently with limited guidance from senior team leaders.

  • Expert level Excel skills including building financial and sensitivity models, pivot tables, and other advanced Excel functions. Experience with data modeling, statistical analysis, or SQL is a plus.

  • Adept at learning new software and analysis methods.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with peers and cross functional teams.

Business Travel

  • Occasional (2-4 times per year)
