Purpose Statement:

Highly skilled and experience leader, who will hold strategic responsibility of delivering Packaging Launch commitment for all NPI Assets. An experienced engineering professional responsible for leading large, global, strategic packaging projects / programs through a matrix of cross-functional groups and individuals. Oversee a capital plan ranging for $10MM to $50MM annually. Provides global guidance on activities related to strategic planning, market demand and trends, strategic opportunities and business needs, technological advances, and legal requirements. Position to be an essential member of Global Packaging Leadership and will hold responsibility for Launch programs relating to packaging for all new product assets in the New AbbVie Pipeline assets.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Global responsibility for the commercialization and launch of AbbVie Packaging and Devices in the AbbVie Network, which consists of 10 internal manufacturing sites, and multiple TPM’s, scope includes; Packaging commercialization strategy, Launch commitments to regulatory, CMC, effective/efficient NPI launches at plants for all launch markets. Lead experienced Global Team responsible for AbbVie’s packaging launch.

  • Global ownership of the Packaging development and launch playbook as part of the pipeline launch gate reviews. Responsibilities include but are not limited to, defining package design parameters while partnering with R&D, Regulatory, S&T, Operations, Marketing and Product Development. Developing, and testing prototypes and authoring the Packaging, Human Factors and Shipping testing sections of CMC documents for New Drug Applications (NDAs). Key role in aligning executive management to Packaging design, location and launch plans.

  • Responsible for the successful on time delivery of Packaging and Device commitments to support the Launch of all AbbVie Pipeline assets, which is a strategically important deliverable for the company.

  • Responsible for compliance with applicable policies and procedures. Ensures quality and effectiveness of key results of major projects within function through sound design, early risk assessments, and strategy implementation. Development and deployment of risk methodologies and implementation of mitigation strategies.

  • Manages multiple, often concurrent global packaging projects/programs and consistently meets expectations. Makes difficult decisions regarding priorities among projects/programs. Anticipates and understands the business needs and has a thorough knowledge of customer strategic needs and global challenges when developing a project/program scope.

  • Responsible for the Global Packaging portfolio management. Leads the project/program team in using established PM tools and techniques to stay within authorized budget limits and achieve the overall project and organizational objectives. Develops global packaging project/program strategy to align and achieve key customer business objectives. Collaborates with leaders and experts to integrate project management best practices into strategies and tactics associated with the development of critical projects.

  • Defines a vision for the future that aligns with corporate goals and critical business objectives when setting strategies for projects / programs. Leads and contributes to the development of long-term business and organizational strategies.

  • Integrates experiences and approaches from multiple projects/disciplines to develop the best solution in the total business context. Proactively mentors, advises, and shares knowledge and opinions with senior management. Manages the direction of global teams and task forces to develop and align procedures and standards.

  • Anticipates trends and prioritizes challenges. Prepares and presents to executive management and obtains their buy-in for major programs. Serves as organization spokesperson on large strategic initiatives. Sets the strategy and direction for improving project design / outcome within the framework of the corporate strategy.

  • Responsible for achieving the project's financial targets in support of business objectives. Maintains project controls and reporting for cost, scope, and schedule; develops execution strategy including procurement. Balances multiple demands.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Must have a bachelor’s degree in engineering, (science, or closely related discipline is desired, or equivalent technical experience plus demonstrated competence, with a desired 18+ years of significant engineering and / or operational experience. A post-graduate education / degree is desired, and may contribute towards the desired years of experience.

  • Experience with Product Commercialization, Packaging design/development, product launch and medical devices would be desired.

  • A career history marked by a consistent series of significant contributions and accomplishments.

  • Demonstrated business acumen coupled with broad functional leadership experience of 10 years or more required.

  • Demonstrated and been recognized for excellence in breadth and depth of knowledge in global project management.

  • Has demonstrated excellence in breadth and depth within discipline and across disciplines.

  • Interacts well with diverse groups across corporation and maintains strong working relationships with internal and external collaborators. Listens to and understands others' points of view and articulates thoughtfully and respectfully one's own perspective orally, in writing, and in presentations.

  • Possesses interpersonal skills to negotiate and reconcile differences, while optimizing overall organizational goals.

  • Consistently demonstrated competency with financial systems and in fiscal control. Project accounting experience. Understanding and management of procurement and contracting processes.

  • Formal Project Management training (preferred)

  • Has a technical background in health care, medical devices, pharmaceutical, biologics, or similar industries (preferred).
