Chervon North America Co-Op Student: Mechanical Engineering/Product Development in Naperville, Illinois

Timeline: May, 2021 - December 31, 2021

The Engineering/Product Development Co-Op will be involved in multiple projects, working with project teams. Interested applicants should be willing to engage in a wide spectrum of mechanical engineering disciplines and be passionate about electro-mechanical design. Additional tasks may include performing basic static or dynamic calculations, participating in idea generation, helping draft technical proposals, conducting small scale experiments, building prototypes, working on improved processes or procedures for the Product Development team and creating models using 3D CAD. Paid internship.


Technical Requirements:

Undergraduate Sophomore level or higher within the Mechanical Engineering program map. Other Engineering curriculums may be considered if classes such as Statics, Dynamics, Linear Algebra, Linear Circuit Analysis 1, Thermodynamics 1, Physics 1 are completed or in process.

General Requirements:

  • Intellectual curiosity about emerging technologies;

  • Entrepreneurial, enthusiastic, proactive, and collaborative approach to work;

  • High degree of organization and attention to detail; ability to manage multiple tasks;

  • Strong analytical skill, both qualitative and quantitative;

  • A good record of academic achievement;

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including basic calculation in excel;

  • Understanding and ability to create 3D CAD models;

  • Basic understanding of mechanical design tasks.

Specific Tasks and Responsibilities Include:

  • Assist senior level engineers in the design and development of a wide variety of electro-mechanical products;

  • Design, assemble, test and debug engineering breadboards and prototypes;

  • Design and build test fixtures;

  • Perform data collection, testing and analysis;

  • Assist in data organization and report generation;

  • Order parts, identify components and specifications, obtain part quotations;

  • Apply engineering discipline to design and modify components to meet specifications, manufacturing capabilities, and industry standards;

  • Create product design models and drawings utilizing computer-aided design software specifying materials, dimensions, stress, structure, and tolerance requirements;

  • Review drawings to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with specifications and manufacturing capabilities. Obtains approval from higher-level engineers;

  • Complete special project(s) as assigned by Engineering Manager;

  • Tear down tools, investigate failures, propose solutions or improvements then rebuild tools to the original manufacturing specifications.

The Following Abilities Are a Definite Plus:

Pro Engineer Creo or Siemens-NX 3D parts and assemblies experience; Machine shop experience; Mechanical design experience. Understanding and experience using 3D surfacing techniques in Pro/Engineer or UG-NX, tolerancing, experience in injection molded plastic design, die cast and sheet metal design.
