As a key member of GFL’s team, you will be committed to providing a healthy and safe work environment for all of our team members. With the support of a national operations team, you will be relied upon to bring a wealth of knowledge and experience in the health and safety field that will allow you to advice on various unique obstacles that we face on a day to day basis. Working closely with our operational teams, Health and Safety will ensure that safety and the environment is at the top of the mind for all team members and at the forefront of all daily activities.
+ Develop and maintain a culture of safety excellence throughout the business
+ Assess and develop Safety and Environmental programs that meet or exceed regulatory standards.
+ Liaison with environmental regulatory bodies throughout North America
+ Provide recommendations and guidance in the area of disposal regulations.
+ Provide recommendations on the transportation and storage of hazardous waste.
+ Develop, conduct and evaluate safety training
+ Support operations in conducting incident investigations utilizing root cause analysis methodologies
+ Identify, analyze and control hazards
+ Review, classify and report on injuries, property damages and environmental events
+ Conduct audits and inspections to evaluate safe work practices and ensure compliance with all relevant legislation
+ Communicate with employees and managers regarding insurance claims
+ Maintain a working knowledge of safety theory, regulations and company policy
+ Review the record keeping process and branch compliance folders
+ Generate monthly NSC and safety subject matter and annual themes
+ Conduct random audits in each division
+ Conform in all respects with applicable federal, provincial and local laws, regulations, ordinances, and other orders and to all company policies, procedures and directives from supervisors.
+ Travel to sites, as required
+ Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or requested by management
Skills & Attributes
+ Ability to effectively communicate with managers and employees
+ Ability to write and understand reports and correspondence
+ Ability to acquire and apply knowledge ecessary to solve safety related problems
Qualifications and Experience
+ 8 - 10 years’ experience in EH&S or related field
+ A thorough knowledge of applicable North American government regulations, safety compliance, and industrial hygiene
+ Possess valid driver’s license
+ OSHA or MSHA experience and a general understanding of all the regulations.
+ EMR experience an asset
+ ISN, comply works, PICS, Avetta, knowledge
+ Fleet safety considered an asset
+ Strong understanding of NSC rules and regulations
+ Ability to identify and evaluate hazards to develop hazard control systems
+ Proven safety leadership experience with the ability to motivate and inspire
+ Experience in training and curriculum development
+ Business acumen, strong analytical skills, strategic thinking abilities, and an understanding of organizational behavior.
+ The ability to work as a member of a team.
CRSP, CHSC, NCSO Designation or relevant training and experience
