Position Overview

The Navistar Procurement group is seeking a Purchasing Program Manager to join their team!

The successful candidate will manage all purchasing activities with respect to assigned product development programs to ensure business objectives are met. The PPM represents purchasing on a cross-functional program team and facilitates overall sourcing, quoting, target cost, tooling, logistics, packaging, supplier quality and supplier readiness.

This PPM role oversees project plans and communicates activities for Purchasing program Key Performance Indicator deliverables. Ensures communication within the Procurement organization and facilitates completion of the program on schedule and within budget. This is a highly visible, very challenging and rewarding position in a supportive, fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities include:

  • Effectively manage purchasing requirements for product implementation, and program launches from initiation through delivery while interfacing with internal customers and department personnel.

  • Represent Purchasing on Program Core Team

  • Communicate program information to Purchasing group and ensure Purchasing assignments are completed to support program goals

  • Facilitate overall sourcing, quoting, target costs, tooling, logistics, packaging, supplier quality and supplier readiness

  • Collaborate with engineers, Category Management Teams and/or tooling on targets and drive more cost-effective solutions when needed

  • Anticipate potential problems, be pro-active and manage changes to ensure projects are on time and within budget

  • Must be a skilled Problem-solver who follows through on implementation

  • Prepare and deliver informative and persuasive presentations to large groups, cross-functional teams and Executive audiences

  • Must be comfortable with Public Speaking

  • Analyze product costs, understand underlying cost drivers and implement cost reduction initiatives to maximize savings

  • Build and manage relationships with cross-functional teams, vendors and management

  • Purchasing liaison to Quality, Service Parts, Manufacturing, and Engineering

Basic Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree

  • At least 8 years of supply chain, engineering or manufacturing experience

  • 1 year lead experience

OR

  • Master's degree

  • At least 6 years of supply chain, engineering or manufacturing experience

  • 1 year lead experience

OR

  • At least 10 years of supply chain, engineering or manufacturing experience

  • 1 year lead experience

Additional Requirements

  • Qualified candidates, excluding current Navistar employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. Navistar does not anticipate providing employment related work sponsorship for this position (e.g., H-1B status)

  • Demonstrates a history of success leading program teams in a matrix organization structure.

  • Resolve a wide range of complex problems of diverse scope in innovative ways, including problems where precedent may not exist

  • Be comfortable in leading cross-functional team members through programs where change is common

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, PowerPoint, Project, Excel and Word is required

  • Must be willing to travel up to 25% both domestic and international

Desired Skills

  • MBA Preferred

  • Previous experience managing large project budgets

  • Manufacturing experience, parts quality experience and expert knowledge of moving automotive and/or truck projects from concept through implementation preferred

  • Familiarity with truck and/or Engine products and components

  • Former purchasing experience or a strong understanding of purchasing is preferred

  • Excellent project management, organizational and communication skills

  • Ability to multi-task, anticipate and solve problems, prioritize workloads and shift resources as needed

  • Ability to quickly learn new concepts

  • Strong consulting and presentation skills

  • Project Management Institute Project Management Professional (PMP) or Program Management Professional (PMP) credential(s)

  • Proficiency in Spanish, Swedish and/or German

  • Lean Six Sigma experience is a plus!
