Assistant Laboratory Technician

About the Role:
Under general direction receives samples at the Environmental Laboratory and performs the associated logging/data entry. Performs other data entry/data handling in the Lab Information Management System and distributes laboratory reports to appropriate recipients. Performs some limited routine chemical and microbiological analysis of water samples in a laboratory setting. Supports Environmental Laboratory technicians and their associated analyses and activities.
Location: 500 West Winchester Road, Libertyville IL 60048
Hours: Monday - Friday (8:30am - 4:30pm)
Skills and Experience
Receives samples at the Environmental Laboratory and performs the associated logging/data entry.
Performs specified routine microbiological and chemical analysis as assigned.
Performs data entry/data handling in the Lab Information Management System.
Distributes laboratory reports to appropriate recipients.
Supports Environmental Laboratory technicians and their associated analyses and activities.
Prepares and standardizes chemical solutions, reagents and materials for use in various tests.
Maintains clean work area, cleans and maintains laboratory equipment.
Prepares and maintains records and reports on samples and test results.
Maintains familiarity with specified laboratory procedures as published in Standard Methods for the Examination of Water and Waste Water, and the administrative rules of the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency 35 Ill. Adm. Code Part 186 Accreditation of Environmental Laboratories, and the Illinois Department of Public Health 77 Ill. Adm. Code Part 465 Certification and Operation of Environmental Laboratories.
Education, Qualifications, and Certification:
Requires an Associate’s degree in an applicable field of study.
A Bachelor’s degree with a major in chemical or biological sciences or related field is preferred.
