Position Overview: Our IT team is growing and currently looking for an Executive Director, SW Engineering to lead our rapidly growing Digital team. We are in the midst of a digital transformation with large investments into cutting edge technologies and are looking for a leader that can play a key role in turning the vision into reality. In this role, you’ll work closely with IT leadership and provide engineering expertise while partnering with various cross functional teams. You will have the ability to influence many aspects of the direction we take, so we’re looking for someone who is energized by the idea of playing a key role in a truly transformative initiative.

Ideally you have a passion for developing leading edge customer-centric applications, enjoy working in an Agile environment, and are passionate about attracting, engaging and motivating a team of Engineers.

This position can be entirely virtual/remote/work from home and the individual can sit anywhere in the US.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide thought leadership on all things related to software engineering.

  • Partner with VP, SW Engineering and CIO to define overall SW Engineering goals and strategic plans.

  • Lead the transformation from legacy technologies to modern, cutting edge ones.

  • Work with IT leadership to define and implement a Mobile technology strategy for Trustmark.

  • Guide and lead a high-performing organization comprised of Directors, Managers and Engineers of different backgrounds and technical skillsets.

  • Partner with multiple leaders across Trustmark and provide subject matter expertise to their respective areas.

  • Oversee the identification, prioritization and delivery of work across multiple teams.

  • Recruit, mentor, develop and retain talented engineers.

  • Develop strategic technology plans to provide continuous product releases for all Trustmark Digital Applications.

  • Work with third parties to manage delivery of transform, build and run activities.

Qualifications:

  • Strong intellectual curiosity

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related discipline with 12+ years of progressive IT experience, ideally with roots as an Engineer

  • 5+ years of progressive leadership experience

  • Insurance, benefits, healthcare, and/or financial industry experience strongly preferred

  • Experience leading digital transformations in an Agile environment

  • Experience leading SW Engineering teams in building consumer web portals and SaaS products

  • Demonstrated track record of developing talent internally, along with attracting top talent externally.

  • Strong knowledge of the Agile and DevSecOps methodologies.

  • Experience with some of the following technologies: Pega, .NET, Azure, Angular, Kafka, Java OpenShift

  • Great communication skills including the ability to present to Senior Leadership
