Right now, one of the team’s biggest priorities is the Positive Train Control (PTC) project. PTC is a government-regulated initiative to increase rail safety through better monitoring and control of train movements. It consists of highly-advanced technologies designed to prevent incidents like train-to-train collisions and over-speed derailments.

DESCRIPTION

As a Transportation Event Analyst, you are part of the team that will ensure the implementation and readiness of one of the most important cross-functional undertakings at CN in recent years.

More specifically, in this role, you are key to the smooth day-to-day operations of PTC within Information Technology and Operational Technology groups. That means you are someone who already has a solid understanding of the organization and overall PTC solution, and you can hit the ground running with ease to have Problems resolved.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The Transportation Event Analyst, owns individual problems assigned to them, assigns tasks to technical resources (Task Assignees) who may work in many different areas who are responsible for problem resolution

  • Investigate and diagnose assigned problems for workarounds and or root causes within the scope of the PTC Support Center.

  • Produce PTC event investigation reports to present to the business
  • Assigns tasks to technical resources (Task Assignees), if required, and coordinate root cause analysis and diagnosis.
  • Analyze PTC Locomotive IETMS logs, Wayside logs and Back Office logs to determine root causes of PTC transportation events.

  • Provide training and or mentorship for the PTC Support officers.

  • Work with FTP clients (ex: WINSCP, FileZilla) to access critical data from the locomotive TMC.

  • Work proficiently with Notepad++ to perform data parsing for log analysis and investigation purposes.

  • Work with Wabtec tools to identify specific track data such as switches, signals, WIU etc. in each subdivision file.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Technical Associate’s Degree

  • Minimum 3 years in railroad field position

  • Excellent verbal, written and technical communication skills to interact with individuals from various levels and departments

  • Experience with IT incident and problem solving

  • Working knowledge of fundamental operations of IT service management relevant software (ex: HPSM), PTC related hardware and software systems (ex: WIU,WMS,etc..) and other equipment (ex: Locomotive)

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite

ASSETS

  • Previous experience with CN’s and familiar with PTC

  • Two years of IT service management experience

  • Knowledge of ITIL service management frame work

  • Experience in Incident/Problem management
