Essential Functions of the Job:

  1. Purchases materials and components in accordance with MRP or KanBan requirements

  2. Plans and schedules purchased components deliveries to meet manufacturing schedules, including outsourced parts

  3. Prepares quotation packages and negotiates prices on purchased components and materials including outsourced parts.

  4. Reviews daily receiving and negative availability reports

  5. Expedites purchased parts, outside manufactured parts and assists in production control

  6. Evaluates supplier price, quality and delivery performance

  7. Obtains prices for cost accounting purposes

  8. Tracks and assist in maintaining schedule reliability

  9. Data entry of purchase orders and delivery due dates to maintain production schedule.

  10. Initiates inter-company transfers

  11. Contacts new sources and negotiate with current suppliers to obtain reduced pricing.

  12. Maintains inventory levels, ratios and turns in conjunction with Alamo Group objectives and goals

  13. Participates in value engineering and learns and implements procedures in accordance with Lean Manufacturing principles

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA’s):

  1. Computer experience essential

  2. Knowledge of Microsoft Office (especially EXCEL) is required

  3. Knowledge of MRP system preferred

  4. Good communication skills required at various levels within the organization and with vendors

  5. Must display a positive attitude in performing job functions and duties while supporting internal customers

  6. Negotiating skills required

  7. Data entry skills necessary

  8. Problem solving and trouble shooting skills required

  9. Good organizational ability required

Education and Experience:

  1. High school diploma or GED required, Bachelors degree preferred

  2. Minimum 3 - 5 years experience in inventory control, production control, purchasing or scheduling preferred

Working Conditions:

Position requires significant exposure to heavy steel fabrication, weld, paint and assembly environment with frequent exposure to heat, dust and noise.

  1. Must be able to work overtime, including weekends

  2. Must be physically capable of sitting, standing, walking and working 8+ hour shift

  3. Must be able to lift, carry and/or move up to 40 pounds on a regular basis

  4. Must be able to work in non-climate controlled areas

  5. Must be able to wear all required safety equipment
