Sonoco Continuous Improvement Leader (SPS Coordinator)/Safety Coordinator in Franklin Park, Illinois
SPS CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT:
Responsible for SPS Continuing Improvement (CI) and Manufacturing Basics at the plant level.
Be the resource for plant associates and pillar teams for SPS related concerns.
Leads efforts to achieve targets for SPS in the plant – particularly after lessons learned on the model machine, with annual review
Utilize Continuous Improvement (CI) methodologies to drive a culture of learning, a dedication to ongoing improvement, and a focus on sustainable results.
Train, coach and educate plant associates on improving zero based losses and using key performance indicators such as manufacturing OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness), product quality, waste reduction, process performance, safety, and operating costs, in order to drive continuous improvements
Function as a member of the plant steering team ensuring team is on track and meeting all KPIs
Ensure appropriate personnel understand, and take actions based on metrics and tracking systems are updated. Should understand all pillars thoroughly in order to give guidance and support as needed.
Ensure that pillar teams are working together and not in silos. Assist in selecting pillar owners and teams
Make sure losses are clearly established and calculated correctly each reporting period. Should understand the make-up of every loss and the drivers behind each.
Review and request support form division practitioner & divisional leadership team, when appropriate.
Responsible for sending requested charts into SPS Practitioner every reporting period.
Maintain continuous communication with the Plant Manager and Area Manager on the progress of SPS activities. Should be able to recognize the gaps and communicate this information as well.
Manages all aspects of the plant safety program including the Safety Pillar Team and oversight of Safety Sub-Pillars while achieving respective team objectives.
Lead the safety hot spot process utilizing R3 analysis and plant safety data to minimize safety hazards and strengthen administrative and engineering controls.
Evaluates and enforces site Health and Safety Programs and ensures compliance with applicable state and federal laws, as well as company policies and procedures.
Continually trains, educates and refreshes all facility employees on safe work practices, policies, procedures, standards and reporting related to safety, environmental and health.
Fully supports safety initiatives by direct interface with leadership to address safety concerns.
Researches and prepares safety materials, delivers presentations, and retains records.
Coordinates safety meeting schedules, agendas, materials and activities. Responsible for updates to track action items generated from safety meetings and audits.
Oversees safety training including attendance for all on-site personnel to track participation in all OSHA regulatory and facility specific required training.
Leads post- incident investigations and provides recommendations for sustainable corrective actions.
Reviews and creates Job Safety Analysis (JSA), One Point Lessons (OPL), Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Work Instructions (WI).
Conducts regularly scheduled safety audits.
Responsible for posting required safety materials including Safety Team meeting minutes and safety inspection and audit results on bulletin boards and ensuring the boards are up to date.
Will assist in the investigation, corrective action and reporting of all safety related incidents. Responsible for reviewing all Close Calls and Incident Reports from Incident Report Database and discusses incidents with teammates.
Assist Maintenance to ensure that all installations, guards are done in compliance with applicable regulations.
Review safety specifications for new equipment, processes or materials with Maintenance and Engineering.
Assist supervision, as required with all safety related issues
Assist in obtaining information and assistance from outside organizations.
4 year degree required; 1-3 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment
Green Belt or Black Belt Certification a plus
Strong Continuous Improvement leadership experience
Bilingual in Spanish will be an advantage for this role
