Patten CAT Safety Manager in East Peoria, Illinois
8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday – Friday, additional hours if necessary
The Safety Manager role reports to the Director of Safety & Risk Management and will be a key member of the Safety Department. This position has the ability to be based out of our East Peoria, IL Construction facilityORour Addison, IL facilityORour Mokena, IL facility.
Together, Altorfer Inc. and Altorfer Industries, Inc. have approximately 1,200 employees and 37 locations throughout IL, IA, MO, and IN. This position will be traveling to and working with managers from all of our locations on a regular basis.
Works in coordination with the Director of Safety & Risk Management as well as other members of the Safety Department to develop, implement, and administer the organization’s risk management goals.
Develops and implements programs, policies, and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and Department of Transportation (DOT).
Supervises and assists Safety Specialist(s) in carrying out risk management goals.
Acts as an advocate and resource for managers responsible for carrying out risk management programs, policies, and procedures.
Assists with identifying, coordinating, and conducting environmental, health, and safety training.
Assists with conducting incident investigations and determining root causes and appropriate corrective action.
Coordinates, conducts, and reports on facility and job site risk assessments to assist with identifying and addressing hazards.
Assists with qualification efforts, either directly or through third parties, to complete work at customer sites.
Assists with processing, organizing, tracking, and improving all data associated with the Safety Department.
Assists with developing, improving, coordinating, conducting, and/or maintaining various safety and environmental functions respiratory medical evaluations, respiratory fit testing, audiograms, injury and illness recordkeeping, industrial hygiene testing, inspections, inspection documentation,driver qualification files, etc.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
5+ years in a safety related position preferred.
In-depth occupational safety and health experience preferred (ASP or CSP preferred).
Experience with OSHA required. Experience with MSHA, EPA, and DOT preferred.
Experience with commercial and industrial machinery and equipment preferred.
Ability to express ideas and influence others in a positive manner to accomplish long term goals required.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures and governmental regulations required.
Ability to write reports, correspondence, and procedure manuals required.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of employees, managers, and customers required.
Must be self-directed and possess excellent time management skills, planning, and organizational skills with a commitment to constant attention to detail.
Continuous focus on overall goal of quality customer service and professional end-products associated with each project or task.
Significant experience with programs such as MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook) required.
Clear, open and concise communication skills (written, e-mail, and verbal) are necessary.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and willing to work varying schedules as needed.
Valid driver’s license is needed with clean driving record. This includes no more than 2 minor violations within the past 3 years and no major violations within the past 5 years (Motor Vehicle Report will be performed on final candidate).

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
This position works primarily in an office environment; however, significant time will be spent within our service areas, warehouses, yards, jobsites, and in a vehicle traveling to and from locations. Approximately 40% of time will be spent traveling to other locations (including overnights). Must be flexible to work varying schedules and hours as needed.
Personal Protective Equipment (safety glasses, safety shoes, gloves, high visibility vest, etc.) will be required to be worn on a regular basis. Noise level in the shop environment is usually moderate and noise level in the office environment is usually low. May, on a continuous basis, sit at a desk for a long period of time; answer telephone calls, write or use a keyboard to communicate through written means. Must be able to walk, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs.
