Midwestern University Building Maintenance Technician - IL - Campus Facilities in Downers Grove, Illinois
The Building Maintenance Technician performs routine and extensive preventative maintenance and repair procedures on buildings, mechanical equipment and utility systems by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Performs minor and major repair of all buildings and equipment. (Major repairs are performed under the supervision of licensed engineer.)
Performs preventive maintenance procedures on building mechanical equipment on a scheduled basis; inspects belts, checks fluid levels, replaces filters, greases bearings, seals, etc.; repairs or replaces broken parts.
Completes daily, weekly and monthly checklists on building equipment maintenance procedures and maintains records of scheduled maintenance procedures.
Cleans and inspects boiler; treats water with proper chemicals.
May operate a computer which controls and monitors mechanical equipment and utility systems.
Repairs refrigeration equipment.
Assembles and installs valves, pipe fittings, and pipes composed of metals, such as iron, steel, brass and lead, and nonmetals such as glass, vitrified clay, and plastic.
Installs and repairs plumbing fixtures such as sinks, commodes, bathtubs, water heaters, hot water tanks, garbage disposal units, dishwashers, and water softeners.
Repairs and maintains plumbing by replacing washers in leaky faucets, mending burst pipes, and opening clogged drains.
Monitors building temperatures and adjusts as necessary.
Responds to emergency maintenance requests as required.
Other duties as assigned.
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education and/or Experience
This individual must have a High School diploma or GED equivalent with EPA Universal Certification or a 1-year certificate from technical school or Associates degree in a related field. The EPA Universal Certification license is strongly desired. 1-2 years of related experience with plumbing and troubleshooting of electrical components that are related to HVAC equipment is preferred. Must have a valid driver’s license.
