Oracle Software Development Manager (JoinOCI-Leader) in Deerfield, Illinois

Manage a team that designs, develops, troubleshoots and debugs software programs for databases, applications, tools, networks etc.

As a manager of the software engineering division, you will apply your knowledge of software architecture to manage software development tasks associated with developing, debugging or designing software applications, operating systems and databases according to provided design specifications. Build enhancements within an existing software architecture and occasionally suggest improvements to the architecture.

Leads a specialized area which may have diverse functional elements. Frequently interacts with supervisors and/or functional peer group managers. May interact with senior management. Demonstrated leadership and people management skills. Strong communication skills, analytical skills, thorough understanding of product development. BS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. Typically one year of software engineering or related experience.

Oracle Information Technology is seeing a technically-skilled Software Development Manager with 10 to 15 years of experience to work with our innovative infrastructure tools development team. A successful candidate will use their experience to design, build, operate and support infrastructure tools and operations of all tools that fall under "Infrastructure as Code" projects. The role requires significant skills in two of the following three areas: back-end development in Python, front-end development in JavaScript/Oracle Jet and cloud infrastructure automation with Terraform. The role’s primary focus is providing solutions for infrastructure and services by leveraging software development and industry standard solutions to automate many tasks required to enable and manage our offerings. In addition, this role as this manager is responsible for complex problem resolution, creating and improving procedures and facilitating communication. Other duties include researching, proofing, and authoring technical documentation that are beneficial to the company. Responsibilities will include working with a global team of front-end UI/UX and back-end API developers to provide a complete solution. You will also work with other development teams to integrate multiple applications into a cohesive whole. Scaling applications to large user counts and very large data and resource requirements will be a regular challenge.


  • Create and manage extensive CI/CD pipelines

  • Develop new user-facing features

  • Develop API's for consumption within UI frameworks

  • Build reusable code and libraries for future use

  • Create automated unit and functional tests

  • Ensure the technical feasibility of UI/UX designs

Skills and Qualifications

  • Proficient in two of three areas: front-end development, back-end development and cloud infrastructure automation

  • Proficient in Python (preferred) or Java for back-end development

  • Proficient in cloud technologies

  • Clear understanding of web technologies like Oracle Jet, AngularJS, Web Services, REST

  • Good understanding of database languages such as SQL and PL/SQL

  • Basic understanding of Oracle RDBMS and MySQL

  • Good understanding of asynchronous request handling, multithreading and multiprocessing

  • Good understanding of machine learning and artificial intelligence

  • Basic understanding of web markup, including HTML5, CSS3

  • Proficient with code versioning tools, such as Git, Mercurial or Subversion

  • Good understanding of Agile software development principles including using common tools such as JIRA


  • 10 to 15 years’ development experience

  • Experience with Development Operations or Site Reliability Engineering

  • The work can be demanding at times, particularly as deadlines approach, when extra hours may be required based on the candidate's effective deliverable capacities.

Educational Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in science or engineering (Computer science preferable)
