Fortive Corporation User Experience Designer in Chicago, Illinois

As a member of the FHS UX Team, the UX Designer will conduct user research, create prototypes, and design and validate user experiences for instrumentation and software for new and existing products and services.

Responsibilities:

  • Create design concepts and prototypes for both biomedical and radiation safety products (e.g., mobile, web, desktop, embedded systems) using user research and FHS design standards.

  • Work with Product Planners/Managers/Engineers to conduct user research and usability testing.

  • Assist in the improvement of our UX processes and UI design standards.

  • Work with project teams and engineering groups to review, communicate, and implement designs.

  • Partner with project managers to develop project schedules and tasks while advocating for appropriate user research activities.

  • Participate in design reviews with the UX and product teams.

  • Coordinate with product planners and business unit managers to recruit participants for user research activities.

  • Occasional travel for VOC to review design concepts

  • Meet project deadlines, willingness to participate in occasional meetings early or late in the day to accommodate global teams.

  • Keep current on design trends and industry best practices.

  • Bachelor’s degree in UX Design, Interaction Design, Human-Centered Design, Usability Engineering, or related field.

  • 5+ years of practical experience in interaction design, user research, human factors engineering, or similar work.

  • Hands on experience with the end-to-end design process (e.g., user workflows, conceptual designs, prototypes, final visual designs).

  • Able to lead user research activities from discovery to validation.

  • Ability to clearly communicate and present new design concepts with strong verbal, written, and visual skills in both a technical and non-technical manner.

  • Interpersonal skills, efficient task management, and self-motivation.

  • Strong working knowledge of design and prototyping tools (e.g., Sketch, InVision, Adobe CS suite).

  • Creating and communicating final visual design specifications that leverage existing Fluke design standards.

    Preferred skills, a plus:

  • Experience with embedded software systems for tools/instruments.

  • Experience creating consistent designs across platforms (e.g., iOS, Android, Web, PC/Desktop).

  • Experience working with Agile/Lean product development teams.

  • Actively contributes to interaction design patterns and visual design standards.

  • Skilled in communicating best practices for UX design and user research to cross-functional teams.

  • Experience working with analytics platforms (e.g., Mixpanel, Google Analytics, etc.).
