TD Ameritrade Senior Manager, Application Support in Chicago, Illinois

The Manager will manage a team of technology associates responsible for supporting the production of client facing applications in the TD Ameritrade environment. The manager will be accountable for leading projects ensuring a stable production environment.

  • Oversee the Strategic design, enhancement, and troubleshooting for enterprise applications supporting trading and client services.

  • Lead the growth and strategic planning of the TDA application infrastructure

  • Communicate to the senior level staff about service disruption and take initial measures for damage control.

  • Analyze statistics and develop/execute action plans to increase availability

  • Ensure reliable 24/7 on-call support on rotating schedule

  • Oversee associate resources to guarantee superior support of all designated applications and systems

  • Oversee the training of Production Support Associates in supporting new products

  • Provide feedback to Applications Development and Operations on changes or events that will be performed

  • Develop standards and metrics and deployment methodologies

  • Lead projects and deployments and ensure they are completed on time

  • Analyze statistics and develop/execute action plans to increase availability

  • Work with third party vendors to provide stable products and solutions, while at the same time maintaining focus on quality of service. Leverage these vendor relationships to introduce new and innovative technologies to enhance or environment

  • Research, evaluate and test new technologies

  • Prepare business cases and price cost estimates for Application Engineering projects

  • Generate project plans and subsequent progress reports (including appropriate size, timeframe, and technical requirements).

  • Coordinate all required project resources for on-time/on-budget fulfillment of project goals

  • Evaluate performance on a quarterly basis and recommend training where required

  • Expected to independently negotiate dependencies and priorities with the numerous stakeholders

  • Oversee the implementation of process and procedural improvements

  • Identify potential concerns related to project initiatives and recommend viable solutions

  • Responsible for establishing procedures & systems to mitigate risk

  • Ensure compliance with established industry rules, regulations and best practices

  • Collect, track, and analyze departmental performance data for the purposes of improving operations, forecasting staffing needs and effectively utilizing all available resources

  • Ensure compliance with TD Ameritrade Inc. policies and procedures

  • Exercise strong decision making skills and enforce company policies in accordance with applicable regulations and procedures

  • Contribute to the Operations Management Team by providing on-call availability and management decisions for the Operations Organization

  • 4 year degree in Engineering, Computer Science or related field

  • Strong understanding of end user computing technology and industry best practices to help us address a wide range of issues

  • Knowledge of financial markets (equity/options/OTCBB) preferred.

  • Excellent knowledge of Windows Server, SQL, Java, JBoss, Linux, UNIX & HTML

  • 5+ years leading IT organizations in a fast-paced application development environment.

  • Experience managing multiple teams of technology professionals

  • Demonstrated use and knowledge of various quality programs/standards (TQM, ISO, etc.)

  • Experience in the brokerage industry/financial background experience is a plus

  • Ability to travel 10% or more of the time

  • Must possess superior interpersonal, analytical and organizational skills.

  • Must demonstrate the ability to lead motivate and develop associates

  • Must be extremely flexible due to the changing priority of Project initiatives

  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of management.

  • Must be self-motivated and customer service oriented

  • Must possess excellent oral and written communications skills

  • Must be able to prioritize tasks and work well under pressure

  • Military education or experience may be considered in lieu of civilian requirements list
