Duties and Responsibilities

We have a postdoctoral level position opening available in the Program for Experimental & Theoretical Modeling (PETM), Division of Hepatology at Loyola University Chicago Medical Center to conduct research in theoretical biology with an emphasis on the dynamics of hepatitis virus infection (e.g. HCV, HEV, HBV and HDV) both in vivo and in vitro with the aim to find and optimize treatment and ultimately cure for these infections. Our PETM group seeks to gain insight into the dynamics of viral-host-drug interactions during infection and treatment via a unique combination of experimental virology and theoretical modeling. On the experimental side, Dr. Susan Uprichard performs viral infection experiments in cell cultures and small animal models that provide the basis for developing mathematical models at a molecular level. We also collaborate closely with clinicians in our Division of Hepatology as well as many other clinicians in the US and abroad who provide viral–host kinetic data from patients during infection and treatment. Skills: We are looking for an enthusiastic scientist with mathematical and statistical skills and a strong interest in viral hepatitis dynamics. Preference will be given to candidates with research experience in the core areas of the group’s research; a track record of publications; and commitment to work to the highest standards. The candidate should have good programming skills, good working knowledge of one or more mathematical, modeling or statistical packages (e.g., Matlab, Monolix, R) and excellent English (both written and oral).
