Hub International Platform Architect in Chicago, Illinois
The Platform Architect will play an integral role in building a holistic view and roadmap of the company’s technology strategy and processes. The role also supports digital transformation by facilitating the formation and implementation of HUB’s future state digital strategy and design. The platform architect will report into the CTO organization as part of the enterprise architecture and design team.
The Platform Architect will partner with the technology teams and multiple businesses across the HUB to analyze various use cases and recommend enterprise solutions that aligned with HUB Technology Strategy and industry best practices. In particular, this role will contribute to laying the foundation of future state enterprise platform capabilities across HUB International. This role will also lead various innovation efforts as HUB moves to serve our clients in additional ways in the future state digital environment.
Building the long-term strategic roadmap for all technology systems architectures in line with business priorities and objectives
Maintains a holistic view of the organization’s strategy, processes, information and technology assets
Partners with senior technology staff and business leaders to act as an advisor to technology strategic planning efforts
Helps business leaders clarify their objectives and expectations for technological innovation efforts
Introduces and accelerates new technologies and methodologies to support digital transformation
Partner with business and technology subject-matter experts to elicit and translate business requirements into technological solutions
Define and own “Platform Architecture/Design” (applications and Infrastructure technologies) utilizing on premise infrastructure, cloud environment, enterprise standards, best practices and reference architecture and design.
Documents and publishes appropriate architecture principles and standards, position papers, blueprints, best practices, patterns and frameworks.
Ensure platform requirements (functional and non-functional) are met per design and architecture.
Defines and maintains a library of functional component models within and across HUB Business units
In-depth understanding of core IT infrastructure concepts: data centers, security, networking, storage, compute, and software applications.
Documents functional product solutions for key product strategy and product management initiatives leveraging defined functional component model libraries and the defined product line architecture road map.
Maintains a catalog of reusable functional application components consumable across applications and business units.
Reviews functional and technical designs to identify areas of risk and/or missing requirements.
Documents and communicates opportunities to leverage inter-project synergies, application and enterprise software or infrastructure asset re-use and opportunities to expose application assets for enterprise consumption.
Ability to “think big” and challenge conventional wisdom regarding technology and future state platform design
Strong leadership and negotiation skills with business and technical groups
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong consultative skills at a cross-functional level
Must have in-depth understanding across infrastructure and applications landscapes.
Must have capacity planning experience
Experience in building applications and platform enviornments
Experience in hands on platform ownership and deployments
Experience in using Micro-services, PaaS and Container platforms
Experience with Continuous Integration and Delivery
Proficient in creating documentation (technical blueprints and design specifications)
Familiarity with AWS, Azure, VMWare, Citrix and Security related technologies
May also require one or more of the following experience requirements: 1) Five or more years working in a distributed and heterogeneous computing environment (ZOS, UNIX, Windows) 2) Five or more years demonstrated experience in working with relational (and/or hierarchical) databases 3) Successful design and implementation of applications in a shared service environment 4) Experience in using Unified Modeling Language (UML) for Object Modeling 5) Experience in building robust and scalable architectures and realizing designs (telephony systems, network services, etc.)
Bachelor's degree in computer science preferred. In lieu of Bachelor's Degree, an equivalent amount of work experience will be considered.
Experience building strategic technology plans and roadmaps
Experience designing, integrating and managing complex infrastructure solutions (e.g., VMware, Citrix)
Comprehensive knowledge of hardware, software, application, and systems engineering
Demonstrated experience with business process and performance modeling, benchmarking, and financial analysis
Ability to understand the long-term ("big picture") and short-term perspectives of situations and how they relate to achieving targeted business outcomes
Ability tomodel the financial impact of technology implementations
Ability to apply multiple technical solutions to enable future-state business capabilities that, in turn, drive targeted business outcomes
Ability to quickly comprehend the functions and capabilities of existing, new and emerging technologies that enable and drive new business designs and models
Ability to balance the long-term (big picture) and short-term implications of individual decisions
