Freedman Seating Company, a leading manufacturer of bus and commercial truck seats located on the west side of Chicago, has an immediate opening for a 2nd shift manufacturing supervisor.

Description:

Supervises 2nd shift personnel running forming, welding, and other fabrication processes in the metal component phase of our value streams. Working with leads, operators, and material handlers, converts subcomponents –blanks, brackets, and tubes – into seat frame components supplying our truck and cutaway bus lines of business. Reports to the manufacturing manager and works in collaboration with other manufacturing supervisors to ensure assembly departments receive all necessary metal components accurately and just-in-time so they can fulfill customer orders on time.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the daily success of the 2nd shift manufacturing subcomponent operations

  • Use 5S principles to keep a safe, orderly, and pleasant work environment for all employees

  • Communicates with manager and 1st shift supervisors to ensure proper handoff from 2nd shift to 1st shift and vice-versa

  • Set clear expectations and provide necessary tools and support to workers

  • Supports personnel training and discipline

  • Coach and develop leads and other employees

  • Upkeep equipment through proper operation, operator preventative maintenance, and detailed repair requests

  • Executes the schedule in a safe, efficient, and timely fashion

  • Identify process and facility opportunities and then collaborate with necessary departments including manufacturing engineering and maintenance

  • Audit the compliance to established standard operating procedures and update, as necessary

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • Associates’ degree in technical field or management (or equivalent certification plus experience)

  • 2 years’ experience combined as a shift supervisor and/or line lead for over 25 employees

  • 5 years’ manufacturing experience with metal fabrication including experience running stamping presses, press brakes, tube benders, welders, or other equipment in a production environment

  • Hands-on individual that will root cause, implement corrective actions, and drive continuous improvement on the factory floor

  • Exposure to quick response manufacturing, lean production, total quality management, total productive maintenance, and other field concepts and practices

  • Ability to communicate effectively (both verbally and written) with all levels of the workforce including operators, engineers, and managers and skilled in communicating with employees of various native languages

  • Working knowledge of ERP, PLM, and QMS systems
