Job Description
Position Overview
As the Manager, Settlements you will be responsible for advising the Settlements team and stakeholders in the settlements process on best practices, process improvements, automation, and system evaluations. The Manager role will be heavily focused on translating strategies into actionable initiatives to improve Settlements processes.
Responsibilities
Demonstrate knowledge of the renewable energy industry and the North American power and natural gas markets and the settlements process for thermal, wind, solar and battery storage projects
Monitor the assigned electricity markets to identify rules changes affecting settlement results and impacts to customers
Partner with internal stakeholders to develop and implement settlement best practices
Oversee the creation and maintenance of Settlements’ standard operating procedures
Drive the definition and adherence to internal processes that ensure consistency and quality
Work with Invenergy’s Business Transformation team on process and systems improvement projects, applying the knowledge of the underlying Settlements processes and technologies to make recommendations on how to achieve long-term scalability, reduce operational cost, and better support Settlements processes
Work with Financial Systems team to implement projects that automate repetitive tasks and reports using various technologies and developing efficient methods that can be used in reporting dashboards
Promote good communication and coordination with other departments
Guide and support team members with individual problem-solving tasks as needed
Lead meetings to review, examine and execute new project onboarding, existing project obstacles, problem resolution, timelines, recommendations, and conclusions
Requirements
Bachelors or Master’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Engineering, or Finance
Minimum of five years of experience in the energy industry with an independent power producer or a utility, including positions in Settlements, Accounting and/or Energy Trading, with a minimum of three years of experience in Settlements
Thorough understanding of energy commodity markets and regional power/independent system operators (e.g. PJM, ERCOT, NYISO, MISO, SPP, ISO-NE, IESO, CAISO, etc.)
Experience with ETRM systems (e.g. Allegro) and ISO interfaces and Settlement software (e.g. ADAPT2)
Intermediate to expert level Excel skills; knowledge of Power BI is a plus
Exceptional problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Previous experience managing direct reports and/or training or coaching personnel in settlements processes
Past process improvement experience or process development work preferred but not required
Familiarity with programming language such as SQL is a plus
The candidate will possess effective written and oral communications skills
