The Maintenance Mechanic is within our Household division and works at the Chicago, Illinois facility and is responsible for independently setting up, troubleshooting, repairing, changing over, and maintaining the production lines. Our Line Mechanics are responsible for product quality and employee safety and share responsibility with the Group Leader for operating production lines at top efficiency.
Sets up production equipment to run scheduled production
Discusses difficulties in operating equipment with machine operators to isolate problems, and then troubleshoots machine to determine cause and repairs required.
Must be able to read and follow directions as found in technical manuals as well as be able to document any and all changes they are involved in. so as to refer back to the notes and records a thereby gain understanding as to how to set up lines an adjust machines and conveyors as needed.
Performs necessary repairs on equipment to keep it in top running order.
Must be able to perform major mechanical overhauls of some packaging equipment
Carries out required preventative maintenance on equipment.
Assists in determining required design modifications and makes approved modifications to equipment.
Performs tasks in accordance with approved procedures and following all safety procedures and gmp's.
Provides coverage for mechanics on other shifts, as needed.
Must be able to work with minimal supervision as well as in a team setting.

Medium Work: Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally (Occasionally: activity or condition exists up to 1/3 of the time), and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently (Frequently: activity or condition exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time), and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly (Constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects. Associates or Technical Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
A minimum of 3 years of experience as a maintenance mechanic in a manufacturing environment. Electrical experience is required.
Thorough understanding of GMP’s
Working knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical functions.
Knowledge of PLC software and ability to perform minor PLC program adjustments on equipment
Ability to operate electrical testing equipment and machining equipment
Utilize hand tools or machines needed for tasks
Read drawings of the items to be made or repaired
Measure, cut or otherwise work on materials or objects with great precision
Use arithmetic or shop geometry to figure amounts of material needed, dimensions to be followed and cost of materials
Lift and move material and products
