JPMorgan Chase Mainframe Software Engineer in Chicago, Illinois

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Participate in project planning sessions with project managers, team members

  • Analyze business and functional requirements and provide IT solutions

  • Estimate level of effort to develop code to meet acceptance criteria

  • Document and lead design reviews, provide input to the design recommendations

  • Translate technical requirements into programmed application modules

  • Document detailed application current and future state specifications

  • Develop, code and test programs and software for defined projects

  • Review, analyze, and modify programming systems, including coding, testing, and debugging

  • Ensure technical documentation accurately reflects software components developed and delivered

  • Ensure adherence to continuous improvement practices as required to meet quality / time to market imperatives

  • Share best practices and improve processes within and across sprint teams

  • Provide input to information/data flow

  • Provide support of software solutions as needed

This role requires a wide variety of strengths and capabilities, including:

  • BS/BA degree or equivalent experience

  • Advanced knowledge of application, data, and infrastructure architecture disciplines

  • Understanding of architecture and design across all systems

  • Working proficiency in developmental toolsets

  • Knowledge of industry-wide technology trends and best practices

  • Ability to work in large, collaborative teams to achieve organizational goals

  • Passionate about building an innovative culture

  • Proficiency in one or more modern programming languages such as Java or Python

  • Understanding of software skills such as business analysis, development, maintenance, and software improvement

  • 10+ years of experience in Application Development in a Mainframe environment

  • Mainframe Natural Adabas, COBOL, CICS, JCL, DB2, VSAM, (Assembler knowledge will be a plus)

  • Strong Skills in All IBM Utilities, TSO/ISPF/SDSF, SORT, IDCAMS

  • Knowledge of Configuration tools - Endevor and Changeman

  • Knowledge of Scheduling tools - CA7 and Zeke
