Hill-Rom Lead Engineer, Wireless Software (REMOTE) in Chicago, Illinois
Description
This position is Fulltime Remote
As a Lead Embedded Software Engineer in R&D, you will be a subject matter expert in 802.11 Hillrom Medical connected system solutions. You will work collaboratively with software teams to design, develop and integration 802.11 Wi-Fi solutions in a broad range of Medical devices and systems to meet connectivity and industry standards. Your determination and patience for root cause analysis are a critical asset to systems problem solving and solutions. Internally, you will use these skills to develop wireless solutions, resolve bugs and propose improvements, engage with project managers, test engineers, quality assurance teams to release validated software. Additionally, you will assist in top tier escalation support, and your excellent troubleshooting and investigative skills will help to resolve customer connectivity issues, end-to-end. You will use your solid planning and communication skills to coordinate solutions between Welch Allyn development teams and field engineers, and customer IT and Biomed departments.

Strong verbal and documentation skills, organized, ability to juggle multiple prioprities
Wi-FI – IEEE 802.11 Wi-Fi protocols such as 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/i/r/h/d/ax, WPA supplicant Security Protocols WPA2- Enterprise authentication/encryption standards.
Certificate types, certificate OpenSSL, Certificates must be created to test various Authentication modes which requires knowledge of OpenSSL and Windows Server methods for generating certificates with different formats and parameters.
C/C
Embedded Linux
Networking Protocols – Knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, HTTPS, DHCP, OSI Layer, NTP – End-to-End communication protocols and paths
Familiarity with Wireless Infrastructure, WLAN controllers, Access points, Radius server, VLANs used for development and testing environments.
Shell Scripting, Bash Scripting, Python
Strong problem-solving skills
Test Tools – TeraTerm, Putty, or other Terminal applications, USB analyzer, CertTool Utility
Wireshark - Wireshark is used for capturing Wired and Wireless traffic which requires knowledge for setting Display and Capture filters, enabling custom display fields and analyzing captured data traces for debugging and functionality verification
IEEE 802.15 BlueTooth/BLE experience preferred
Qualifications
Required background:
Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or related field
10-20 years of experience
Experience in root-cause analysis for connected solutions
Strong motivation for continuous learning in a dynamic environment
