Broetje Automation Industrial Automation Software Engineer in Chicago, Illinois

We are seeking an entry level software engineer that will be responsible for learning and manipulating code on a product line we recently acquired. With the building of our new factory, opportunities to learn additional systems and skills will abound. Challenge inspired individuals NEED apply.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Manipulation and modification of C languages and SQL queries

  • Project collaboration in the fields of software development and IT-integration

  • Selection and integration of software modules while considering functionality and technical aspects in the context of electrical and mechanical construction, service, and development

  • Understanding and adaptation of software architecture

  • Enhancement and continuous development of existing standards

  • Project-specific adaptation and testing of software at the actual machines

  • Technical coordination with customers and vendors

  • Create documentation of the developed software based on company standards

Please note: Travel to Germany may be required to train for this position.

Qualifications & Education:

  • Work experience MUST HAVE RELEVANCE to interfacing with some aspect of motion control, up to and including: servo, actuator, pneumatic, or sensor technology in regards to software programming.

  • BS/BA/Certificate in computer science/engineering and/or experience in this industry MINIMUM 3 years experience, with ideally less than 10 years experience.

  • Interpersonal skills, team player, great communication skills and persuasiveness, stress-resistant, goal-oriented, and willing to learn new skills

  • Method competencies: complexity estimates and planning, creation of specifications

  • Open to occasional travel (international and domestic)

Specific software knowledge (highly favorable):

  • Development environment: Visual Studio .NET

  • Programming languages: C/C++, .NET, SQL, XML, Delphi

  • OS: Windows XP / 7 / 8 / 10

  • Database: MS SQL-Server, Firebird, MS Access

  • PDM: Subversion, Sharepoint

  • Previous experience with Ethernet communication systems

  • Groupware: MS Exchange/Outlook

Additional software knowledge (not required):

  • Controls/visualization: Knowledge in Siemens Step 7, Graph 7, WinCC and WinCC Flexible, 840D, TIA-Portal, VisiWin, Simatic IT, Hydra

  • Interfaces/bus systems: OPC UA, Ethernet, VPN, ProfiNET, Profibus
