Middle and Large Commercial (MLC) Data Science is looking for a data engineer to join our team and support our ongoing work on the underwriting transformation initiative.
Design and construct data pipelines at scale to help build and productionalize data science models
Transform structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data into model-ready datasets; this will involve a lot of data munging and feature engineering
Identify and integrate new technologies and frameworks into the MLC Data Science workflow
Design and build data-intensive applications for both Data Scientists and business customers
Proficiency in at least one programming language for data analysis, preferably Python
Strong SQL skills
Self-directed problem-solver willing to work independently and take the lead on projects when needed
Experience with distributed systems used in data engineering (e.g. Spark, Presto, Hadoop, Hive)
Experience with the Linux/Unix command line
An interest in both the technical components of data engineering as well as the business problems the team is working to solve
Two or more years of experience in the insurance industry (preferred)
Intermediate to advanced proficiency with Apache Spark (preferred)
Experience with AWS tools such as EMR, S3, Lambda, etc. (preferred)
AWS EC2, EMR, Lambda, S3 (and more)
