REPORTS TO: Director of Facilities

Erie Neighborhood House, a progressive social service agency serving the Chicago metropolitan area and dedicated to promoting a just and inclusive society, is seeking a full-time Custodian. Reporting to the Director of Facilities, the Custodian’s basic function is to is to help maintain Erie properties in a safe, clean and comfortable environment for clients, staff and visitors.
Ensure the interior and exterior of the building is a safe, clean, comfortable and inviting environment.
Ensures that classrooms and bathrooms are fully stocked with disposable supplies.
Assists Maintenance Worker(s) in assigned projects.
Directs & works closely with Easter Seal’s volunteers in assigned projects
Supervision of Easter Seal’s staff, including providing a monthly work schedule, approving and signing time sheets and completing semiyearly evaluations.
Provides inventory control/report of all supplies used in daily routine on a monthly basis.
Assists in setups and breakdowns for events.
Notifies the Director of Facilities of any mechanical, electrical, plumbing or other systems or equipment that is not functioning properly.
Check packing lists of deliveries of facility supplies to ensure correct contents and assist in unloading and storage of deliveries.
Cross trained to become knowledgeable of systems and building operations in Little Villages.
Support and participate in all required agency events and activities.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements:
High School diploma or GED equivalent.
Demonstrate the following qualities: self-motivation, self-directed, follow directions, have good judgment, be reliable, be responsible and be a good team member.
The ability to do a professional job in all aspects of the position. This includes being helpful in assisting clients and visitors and being careful in the details of the work – in both function and preventability.
Physical constraint – able to lift 50 lbs.
Proof of eligibility to work in the U.S.
The ability to respond to emergencies calmly and immediately.
Upon employment must complete all forms related to hiring including Erie’s employment application status, three letters of recommendations, complete all DCFS forms (including a criminal background check, fingerprinting, child abuse and neglect background check if applicable for building/program).
