Silgan Quality Assurance Technician in CHAMPAIGN, Illinois

Our QAT's are smart, dependable and work with our machine technicians to find defects and fix them. The right candidate will work our night shift schedule (12 hours per night from 5:40 pm to 5:50 am, M, T, F, Sat, one week, then Sun, W, Th the next). The beauty of this schedule allows you to enjoy up to 15 days off per month, return to school, or offset daycare costs. At a the very least you get to sleep in past 5 am!

Following are typical job duties:

  • Measures, observes and inspects process and product to ensure products meet quality requirements according to customer specifications.

  • Thoroughly inspects initial product from machine start up, conducts line clearances, and communicates quality status with Shift Supervisor.

  • Rejects defective parts, and marks type of defect on part, container of parts, or inspection tag.

  • Communicates with team, production staff, maintenance technicians and management staff as required.

  • Makes and/or verifies labels.

  • Troubleshoots manual gauges.

  • Analyzes visual defect data and dimensional data; interprets control charts and histogram data; makes decisions for pass/fail.

  • Writes test protocols for qualifications, standard work instructions, and submits detailed reports.

  • Observes safety and security procedures; reports potentially unsafe conditions; uses equipment and materials properly.

Qualifications

High school diploma/GED required minimum. One year certificate from college or technical school; or six months to one (1) year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Manufacturing software (we can train) and Microsoft office.

Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Food Safety, Quality and HACCP Pre-requisite Programs is a big plus!

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is loud, requiring ear protection. The surface on which the work is performed is level and made of concrete.
