Advertisement Positio*n Announcement* Full-Time Building Maintenance Worker Salary Range: $14.4959 to $15.1487/hour (Consideration given for experience and education) Position Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 4:30 pm Overtime may be available and/or required Position Summary Under general supervision, performs a variety of general, moderately difficult support tasks and activities in the routine maintenance of county buildings and grounds. Work is primarily manual in nature requiring physical labor and the use of a variety of common maintenance tools and equipment. This position will be introduced to and have the opportunity to learn the latest technologies available in operation, security, communication, and data systems that are being installed in the ongoing $40 million expansion and remodeling of Law & Justice Center. These systems will provide exciting opportunities to learn and develop strategies and best practices for the operation of both new and mature buildings/facilities. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Assignments will vary greatly depending on the need for support work to be done and will range from unskilled to semi-skilled tasks. Employees in this classification work under close supervision and receive specific instructions and on-the-job training regarding efficient and safe operation of equipment prior to work being assigned and performed with some independence. Work is reviewed by the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor or lead worker through observation of the work while in progress or upon completion. Required Qualifications * High school graduation, or possession of GED Certificate * Some experience (0 – 1 years) in the use and operation of equipment and tools used in the routine maintenance of buildings and grounds * OR any equivalent combination of education and experience that would provide the above noted knowledge, skills and abilities * Illinois Driver’s License, proof of insurability and a safe driving record * Following an initial job offer, potential employees will be subject to a thorough background check and must pass a drug test. * _ _ Physical Attributes/Demands Work requires enough physical strength, agility, endurance, dexterity and hand-eye-foot coordination to perform all essential duties including the operation of power and hand equipment and tools. Work requires lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds and reaching in front of body and overhead while lifting or carrying objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Work requires sitting, standing and walking for long periods of time, and frequent kneeling, squatting, pushing, pulling, twisting, bending, and climbing stairs and ladders. Work Environment The work is performed primarily indoors at various areas of a county building or facility or driving a county vehicle to pick up or deliver supplies or running errands. Occasionally, the work is performed outdoors on grounds surrounding assigned work area and exposes an employee to inclement weather. Work may expose an employee to potential hazards when using HVAC chemicals, refrigerant products, and high voltage; potential biological hazards; potential hostile environments; and potential physical hazards while performing work assignments. Work requires the use of safety clothing and equipment, and compliance with safety rules and procedures.
